Dynatek Announces Off-Axis Stent and Stent-Graft Testing

Dynatek dalta Scientific Instruments has improved its accelerated durability testing by developing testing that provides anatomically-representative vessel designs in testers that better replicate physiological fluid dynamics. This off-axis testing integrates unidirectional fluid flow as would be experienced in vivo, while providing accelerated pulsation. The result is an environment where stents and stent-grafts experience loading from the cyclic expansion and contraction of the vessel, as well as from the interaction of the fluid with the device.

Recent presentations at the annual Cleveland Clinic Stent Summit, held August 24-26, provide new insight into potential failure modes for stents and stent-grafts, and suggest that fluid dynamics and non-radial loading may be more culpable than radial stress in device failures. This information helps reinforce the importance of in vitro testing under conditions that best replicate the environment into which devices will be deployed.
